A Glossary

Ab
Latin for 'since' encompasses learned orthodoxy Alpha with the Beta (bravo) of expedition and exploration rather than expediency. The word appears to encompass the whole of Greco/Roman classical epistemology dovetailing ethical traditions (stoicism) to ecology and evolution in as compact a formulation as imaginable.
Alpha
In ordinary use: the first, dominant, or established form — the baseline against which alternatives are judged. In this corpus: the orthodoxy that builds utility by harvesting the commons through inherited competence; the starting plateau on the S-curve of Areté. From a firmly grounded Alpha, Praxis (Beta) extends us toward Omega (wholeness) through the discovery of a broadly defined efficiency — a competence in living itself.
Anarchism
Political and social order without a permanent ruling class or coercive state as the default. Not chaos: voluntary association, mutual aid, and federated self-rule. Here: natural governance through identity, community, and custodianship of ecology rather than a standing warden. The starting point is self-governance and self-regulation — the one thing we can all legislate for.
Anima
In psychology (Jung): the inner life and relational soul — often the unconscious feminine in a masculine psyche; more broadly, the vital spirit or bare liveness — the uncostumed self beneath prestige — that finds what is minimal and essential and refuses to strip-mine the commons for display. Flora demonstrates anima perfectly while fauna expresses it synergistically in the ecology.
Animus
In psychology (Jung): assertive drive and the unconscious masculine; in ordinary speech, hostility or enmity. Here: exuberant competition and defensive force — necessary when a perimeter must be held; corrosive when it turns shrill, paranoid, or growth for growth's sake (machina without Dei). More constructively animus is expressed towards an aggressor when for example a mother intuits that her offspring are at risk.
Animus Machinae
Animus flowing through machinery — for example the information network as micro-transactions which, whether intentionally or not carom off proximate nodes to effect some harm even if emotional or psychological. This however may accumulate to effect visceral (literal) tissue damage through chronic stress or incitement to self-harm or violence to others. Cultivating awareness, mindfulness, and conscious control of autonomous function (breath) generates a resilience to Animus Machinae. It's also important to understand and contain our own tendency to respond; there is limited value in participating in atomistically on social media with complete strangers versus cultivating relationships in community around shared meaningful objectives.
Areté
Greek ἀρετή: excellence or virtue — fitness of a thing to its purpose; human excellence as skill in living well. To be good and unreproachable not through the exercise of indiscriminate power, but through cultivated judgment. Virtue is cultivated as much by knowing what one stops doing as by knowing what is to be done — where one has agency, beginning with self-governance and self-regulation.
Autonomy
Self-rule: the capacity of a single sentient being or a collection of them to govern without arbitrary external domination. Living well free of coercive authority and of machinery that steers you against your self-interest. Kibbutzim are an example of an autonomous collective living in harmony with ecology.
Beta
A deliberate branching from the orthodox main trunk to test a hypothesis developed with data from reality (production) that additional yield may be generated. Ecology does this this through genetic variety, variance and evolution.
Breathwork
Deliberate regulation of breath as the hinge between autonomic life and conscious agency—making breath quality my second priority only to sleep. To optimize overnight recovery, I wear surgical tape over my mouth while sleeping to enforce strict nasal breathing, stimulating nitric oxide production, protecting my oral microbiome, and deepening parasympathetic restorative sleep. My daily protocol includes a twenty-minute mindful meditation session, which I prepare for with a sequence of Kapalabhati (1 minute), seven cycles of 4-7-8 breathing, and a two-minute breath-hold.
he practice that inserts calm where panic is, restores receptivity, and precedes contemplation. The Yoga Element taken off the mat into civic life is to be with that breath as you connect and flow with whatever or whoever is in front you. Enjoyment or contentment through cycles then regulates breath and the whole self.
Call to Adventure
In Campbell's monomyth: the summons that begins the hero's journey — often refused at first, then answered. The mandate to follow bliss: the discovery and expression of calling — that creative action which leads to contentment despite turbulence and which one would happily do without income if possible. The hero must come full circle — achieve sufficient self-awareness to know that answering one's calling is an imperative. It cannot be refused without calamity and remorse.
Calling
In ordinary and vocational speech: a strong inner summons to a kind of work or life; vocation as destiny rather than mere job. The configuration of qualities through which meaningful work serves both self-actualization and the commons — evidenced by flow and useful outcomes, not title alone.
Capital
In economics: assets that produce further value — physical, financial, human, social. Not only cash. The ability and wherewithal to care for and sustain things through generative action (Utility) — the Janus custody, husbandry, and stewardship that make yield possible without hollowing the commons.
Carta
Latin: charter or letter — a formal written instrument that sets out rights, scope, or purpose. Here: the founding charter of Regnum Dei; read it first for soundness, ontology, and the three governance pillars before diving into series essays.
Commons, Treasury of the
Shared resources not owned as private inventory — from pastures and fisheries to knowledge, climate, and public trust (Elinor Ostrom and after). The Treasury of the Commons is the monist destination of our works: the shared account into which virtue, care, and yield flow when private and public interests align.
Creation
In theology and ordinary speech: the brought-into-being of the world, or the natural order of life. Here: the eminence toward which loyalty points when pyramids and parties fail — belonging to the planet rather than a petrified hierarchy.
Dhara
Dhara is the Sanskrit concept of continuous flow, stream, or current—derived from the root dhṛ, meaning "to hold or sustain." Philosophically, it represents an unbroken thread of awareness and energy.
Diya (also Deep)
The diya is a lit flame—an external reference to our shared third eye. When viewed with true drishti (sacred vision), its light illuminates maya for what it truly is: the fluid dance of energy and matter that forms the raw fabric of creation.
Dharana
Sanskrit Dhāraṇā (धारणा): Focused attention or total concentration—bringing the whole self to a focal point until immersion replaces distraction. Kinetic sports cultivate this state, but so does unscripted memory work, which allows a speaker to perform, present, and converse with genuine presence.
Dhāraṇā is the discipline that elevates a story or an encounter from a perfunctory spectacle into something truly formative. When efficiency and quantity replace efficacy and quality, human interactions degrade into hollow transactions. True presence, by contrast, invites the improvisational narrative back into the room.
Dhyana
Sanskrit ध्यान: Dhyana may essentially be thought of as the flow state; a connected sense of enjoyment. Whereas Dharana is deliberate often coercive practice in which we may struggle internally as we aim to establish a practice (protocol) which we know to be good through running the protocol repeatedly until it become recursive and autonomic. We may for example compel ourselves to sit down to meditate daily or practice a musical instrument because we have some sense that it calls us. As we explore through dharana it may then become enjoyed in flow state dhyana.
Dial Square
The quadrature and the living pillars of a self-sovereign character in the tradition of Jung and Campbell as Ash has interpreted them through the use of metaphor — Identity (Stone Rose), Capital (Redcurrant), Alignment (Yoga Element) — whose convergence is Governance, regulated by the consistency of cyclicality ($\pi$). This creates an integral strength which is a deeper ripeness or pukka form of beauty.
Dollar Regime
Consider the broad semantic and institutional perimeter organized around the US dollar: the Federal Reserve at its core, sovereigns maintaining shared financial plumbing, and multilateral bodies like the IMF and World Bank mediating regional interests. The primary friction lies in the weaponization of a national currency for state ends—especially as global elites increasingly detach identity from citizenship. The underlying risk for the United States is hubris: assuming the nation will always be seen as the ultimate safe haven for the world's elite talent and capital.
Drishti
Drishti is the intentional, inward-oriented gaze used in yoga. Rather than scanning the environment in search of something else or something new, the eyes are instead anchored to specific focal points—such as tip of one's nose or hands, or the third eye during seated meditation. This disciplined focus draws visual attention inward, using the body as a doorway to quiet the conscious mind and access deeper layers of the subconscious. When paired with symbolic gestures like the Vitarka Mudra, this internal containment emanates anima and aligned integration.
Equivalence
Recognition of equal standing without insisting on precise factor identicality. Distinct from equality-as-sameness. This becomes particularly important as regime logic is made distinct from geographic if the network is to be seen as credible and neutral at a base infrastructure level so that normative preferences may be expressed as pluralism and then assessed for validity (as legitimate and fair).
Firmitas
Firmness — structural soundness. Form aligned with nature; what Praxis and Beta yield at the branch where edge exploration strengthens rather than makes fragile through neglect and a lack of courage which over time generates animus at the trunk (Alpha).
Giants
In myth and modern idiom: oversized powers that dominate the landscape. Scale when capital is losing or has lost marginal utility. Celebrity and institutional personalities who dominate the social network through capital, narrative, and access to the media on which it is carried — hard power paid for by money to generate money; care grows impersonal at scale.
Governance
The systems and practices by which a community steers itself — rules, norms, and accountability. Here: the perimeter of scope that joins Intelligence, Capital, and Identities (semantic perimeters imbued with personality/culture) without externalizing cost if at all possible, because externalizing cost invites animus or antagonism. It begins with governing oneself through consistent protocol.
Hormesis
In biology and toxicology: a beneficial response to low-dose stress that would harm at high dose. Here: drawing comfort from discomfort — virtue forged in turbulent flow as Praxis metabolizes what orthodoxy alone cannot.
Identity
Who someone is — persistent across contexts, yet revisable; personal, social, and legal. A personality with an evolving sense of place in the world, defined as an immutable chain of reactions or responses to the world; interactions or transactions whose data qualities are increasingly on the social network and on-chain or other relational datasets (private or public), scattered across platforms and semantic perimeters (domains of governance).
Idiot / Idioteque
an idiot or idioteque is a network node personality of high value; breaking it down into its components we have ID (identity) and IoT (internet of things). This ID represents a broadly accepted (fungible) and distributed asset between institutions (incumbent domains). All individuals lacking a distinct voice or semantic fingerprint on the social network may in one way or another be seen as an idiot: someone who generally delegates opinion on governance rather than assuming broad responsibility for the Global Commons. This amounts to the Refusal of One's Call to Adventure and the assertion of one's eccentric (unique) identity. Satoshi Nakamato as a myth represents the departure (separation) of identity as a notion from the community (and the consequent dislocation is price from value) so that a discovery could ensue as to meaning and true purpose (initiation) defined by the self. Following which one returns possessed of utility to work in community towards global systemic integrity however one chooses (with newfound autonomy).
Intelligence
The capacity to learn, reason, understand, and adapt — human or artificial — using data in context or situation. Applying reason and empathy to find a starting point in Truth; first pillar of the Dial Square, without which Capital and Identity become costume and superficial performance.
Janus
The ancient Roman god of beginnings, transitions, time, duality, doorways, gates, and endings. Distinct to Roman mythology with no direct Greek equivalent, he is famously depicted with two faces looking in opposite directions — one toward the past and the other toward the future. His two faces allowed him to see both backward and forward, inside and outside, or entry and exit simultaneously. In Sanskrit, the Indo-Aryan root for "to comprehend" is ज्ञा (jñā): to see both sides of a matter in general, or both a particular angle and its counterpoise.
Keiretsu
In Japanese business history: interlinked corporate groups bound by cross-shareholding, trading ties, and shared history. Here: stakeholder clusters as human-centric anarchy — networks that cohere without a permanent warden. The Keiretsu are an expression of Reed's Law and a transition between partnership and corporate frameworks to navigate the demands of modernity in the Japanese political economy of the twentieth century while allowing Metcalfe's Law to function without excessive centralization (Matthew Effect).
Ki
Japanese 気: vital energy, spirit, atmosphere — related graphs include 機 (mechanism) and 規 (standard). Here: the flow that must move through layers until it finds a legitimate base; Praxis keeps architecture from brittleness so ki can reach where it is required. Ki flows to and from the microcosm to the whole. The whole may be modelled as a state of balance — the Treasury of the Commons.
Ledger
A book or system of record for debits and credits — from clay tablets and Domesday to double-entry and blockchain. Here: money as information; identity and value custody expressed through protocol-bound agreement signed by keys.
Lingam
In the Yogic and Vedantic traditions, defining the Lingam (Sanskrit: लिङ्ग, literally meaning "mark," "sign," "emblem," or "attribute") as the emblem of creative force and the unmanifest masculine/neuter principle. By combining ling~ and ~am we given signal or signature (language) of identity (amness). Smoke is the linga (the visible, physical sign) that reveals the hidden presence of fire (lingi). The smoke itself isn't the identity or personality; it is the sensory footprint that proves the underlying reality exists. This site and its ontology only indicates to you that I exist or once did exist and not the certainty of my existence in this moment.
Lingam in yoga tradition is also symbolic of Shiva and transmutation (conversion to express utility). Truth is an input which is transformed to generate an outcome with broad utility (fair and possessed of integrity) or alternatively it is degenerate (a utility so narrow as to be better viewed as absurd).
Maya
In Indian philosophy: the appearance or veil that obscures ultimate reality — not mere "illusion" as trick, but the power that makes the provisional world seem final in the midst of humanity where each personality projects their modeled perspective of the augmentation we call society. When the augmentation is dense enough one is compelled through introspection of what is seen and, as well, introversion to discern truth (Brahman in the macrocosm and Atman in the microcosm).
Moral Injury
In clinical and military ethics: the lasting wound from perpetrating, failing to prevent, or bearing witness to acts that transgress deeply held moral beliefs. Distinct from ordinary burnout; it accumulates when one is imposed upon to perform duties which are misaligned. PTSD in warfare is one common manifestation.
Namaste
Sanskrit greeting: "I bow to you" — recognition of the sacred or worthy in the other. The protocol that initiates interface with the divine in another without intermediation of authority; soft power when virtue recognizes virtue as tributaries whose confluence flows to Brahman.
Noblesse Oblige
French: nobility obliges — privilege entails duty to those with less, or to the world at large when one has what suffices for a good life. The traditional interpretation: those with leisure should contemplate and act for the commons without demanding extra compensation in return.
Omega
Last letter of the Greek alphabet; in theology and systems talk, the final end or attractor. Wholesome, internalized, integrative functionality — the far shore beyond Praxis on the S-curve of Areté.
Orthodoxy
Right opinion or authorized doctrine — the established teaching of a community. Here: Alpha's rigidity — might, heritage, tradition, patriarchy as inherited form; necessary as a base rate or kernel but inadequate without Praxis, Beta's fluidity.
Original Sin
My interpretation of original sin, a concept in Christianity is that we carry a karmic (carom) energy perceived in the commons - as interpreted by the way in which we and our communities trigger others and the ecology beyond them for the extraction of things that have utility and which we require in order to live. There is a line to be drawn between wants and needs and we may optimize our capacity to draw it with presence or mindfulness in the immediacy as we are in the midst of improvisational and protocol-enabled creative endeavor. This is the duality between anima and animus.
Pain Body
Popularized by Eckhart Tolle, the pain-body represents the accumulated reservoir of past emotional trauma living within an individual. When linked to historical prejudice, repression, or societal oppression, this collective trauma manifests as a personal karmic grievance—an internalized wound where systemic injustice becomes tied to individual identity and continuous emotional reactivity.
In Jungian philosophy we carry this trauma in our bodies as chronic tightness often activated by flight or fright and which may then persist (often as a result of modern maximalist lifestyles). Protocols such as Yogasana, Méthode Naturelle and other guided somatic approaches are minimalist approaches to alleviate these organically.
Peridot
The olivine gemstone; traditionally a birthstone of August. Unlike other gems (rubies, diamonds) which are found at the crust, peridot lies deep (22 to 55 miles) and is only brought up because of geological activity. It is also found in extraterrestrial objects.
Perimeter
A boundary line enclosing a space; in security, the edge of a trust domain. Nested boundaries of belonging and code — personal, communal, institutional, sovereign — the unit of Governance's scope.
Political Economy
The study of production, distribution, and power — how politics and markets co-constitute value (from classical political economy to modern institutional analysis). Here: the practical lens learned at the shop counter as much as in theory. There are broadly two approaches — Liberal (optimistic and progressive) and Realist (pessimistic and conservative). Anarchism may be seen as a liberal tradition applied with pragmatism in a world where few imagine that global change may be dictated at large from a local level through soft power or charisma (where word matches deed).
Praxis
In philosophy (Aristotle onward): informed practice — doing that embodies theory, not mere technique (poiesis) or idle contemplation. Here: fluid practice that loosens orthodoxy enough to explore the edge; it yields firmitas, lets ki flow, and turns Alpha toward Omega.
Project, Product, Protocol
Corpus arc of change on the social network: managed project → owned product → use-case-specific public protocols (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana as exemplars) — decentralizing agency and how value is registered. In some senses you are a project and each of your behaviors is a product for which you are evolving optimal protocol (flow state) such that the line between autonomous and agent dissipate — dualism (as toil and friction) fades.
Protocol
Consisting of proto- (indicating a precursor to intentional behavior) and -col (implying a recursive boundedness—the impulse to persist and respond to the primordial call), a protocol is fundamentally autonomic regulation. In the body, protocols manifest as functions, routines, and processes that allow the physical system to maintain equilibrium without conscious thought, which is neurologically expensive.
Breath is the foundational protocol. While holding your breath can be an uncomfortable or even unpleasant experience, a daily practice makes panic in everyday life almost impossible to imagine, let alone experience.
Once fear and panic have been adequately addressed, the next emotions are frustration and anger. Here again, breathwork and meditation act as protocols that enable delay and introverted deliberation—fostering response over reaction. Eventually, anger dissipates into presence, at which point we divine the comedy in our midst and recognize the need for sensitivity.
Regnum Dei
Latin: the reign or kingdom of God. Here: Divine Governance — the name of this ontology; truth (veritas) as foundation, utility (utilitas) as generative process, and structural integrity (firmitas) as what good building yields. The three pillars are Intelligence (Sine Qua Non), Identity (Semper Idem / Dial Square), and Capital (E Pluribus Unum); Peridot essays illuminate terms and conditions at the lived edge.
Samadhi
Sanskrit Samādhi (समाधि): Absorption—the state in which subject and scene are no longer held apart. Here, individual empathy and hyper-sensitivity are modulated and diminished as one becomes entirely equanimous to the particular. Though outward observer-critics may perceive this as a quiet insensitivity, the self is held in a state of foundational awe and reverence toward the oneness of all. It naturally follows Dhyāna.
In classical Yogic and Vedantic philosophy, this reaches its ultimate terminus through Mahāsamādhi (the great absorption)—wherein the end of life marks the complete dissolution of distinction between anima (raw liveness) and animus (seen here as mere limitedness or boundedness).
Satyagraha
Gandhi's term: truth-force — nonviolent resistance grounded in truth and refusal to harm. Here: asymmetric explanatory challenge that accepts a regime's discomfort because that friction nourishes the soul; it deeply embarrasses authorities that claim moral authority because it shows that authority to be little more than propaganda as self-affirmation — an oversold placebo (homeopathy). This leads to the loss of credibility and authority.
Self-sovereign
In digital identity: the principle that individuals control their own credentials without a central issuer holding the keys (SSI). Self-possessed and self-contained — projecting onto the network only what is necessary; crossing thresholds without surrendering the whole self to harvest.
Semantic Perimeter
Corpus usage: a coded boundary of shared meaning (semper idem) within which we recognize one another and can evaluate exchange with those beyond it. Nested perimeters compose the body politic.
Semper Idem
Latin: "always the same." Identity embodied as a mound of attested interactions registered as data which "speaks and has character" (is semantic and bounded). Therefore like its counterpart (our real selves) it is stable (or at least consistently us) yet forever evolving; it is the tell of who you are across contexts; trust which does not require attestation by authority.
Social Credit
In ordinary speech: reputation and reciprocal trust; historically also mutualist credit systems. How how much a community may safely entrust you with inside a semantic perimeter — preference and reliability made legible through gossip protocol.
Social Network
In the social and applied information sciences: the web of relationships among actors that forms to provide safety in a complex system or mesh of identities; an initial desire for security evolves to seek something more — self-actualization; each one then seeks to be of utility to the whole through creative expression with autonomy and agency in communities deliberately selected through and by one's innate personality.
Soft Power
Attraction and persuasion rather than coercion or payment. Virtue as influence — Areté, namaste, culture's quiet force — against Giants' hard power of capital and office.
Soundness
Wholesomeness, structural integrity, and fitness to purpose in a person or system — possessed of order without clutter, alignment without coercion, and embodiment without invasive growth. In Carta: the quality we need to feel sufficient in the present moment and on a vector toward the good, whether moving fast or still.
Stephen / Steven
Derived from the ancient Greek name Stephanos (Στέφανος), stemming from the verb stepho ("to encircle" or "to crown"). Popularized by Saint Stephen, the first Christian martyr (protomartyr), whose death symbolized receiving the "crown of martyrdom." The Feast of Stephen on 27 December (in the Anglican calendar) bridges the joyous celebration of Christ's birth with the sobering reality of the cost of discipleship — the imitatio Christi. This is relevant because in defining a perimeter and setting boundaries one reserves for oneself the right to fully define identity.
Tel
Tel (Hebrew: תֵּל) / Tall or Tell (Arabic: تَلّ) a stratified settlement mound (Arabic tell) — layers of habitation compressed into a hill. Here also: the intimate mound each person builds transaction by transaction; ledger and self as sediment.
Crawford lake a mimetic body of water, pill-shaped and deeper than it is wide. Located in Milton, Ontario a twenty minute drive south from Acton at an historic Haudenosaunee settlement is a tell cataloging the impact of the Anthropocene and before that the history of human settlement and trade.
Tenable
Capable of being held or defended — an argument, a position, a claim. Money and interaction fit for good-faith increments at civilizational scale; time as money that can be trusted because accounts start at zero and settle at one — binary clarity as the most obvious physical analog of what we have had at hand.
Tev
Gujarati તેવ: habit. Homophone and cousin to tel: personality as a mound of repeated action. We are each a mound of habits.
Transition
The civilizational move from debased, opaque capital toward resilient architecture: identity made tenable on the social network, yield made legible, institutions earning loyalty through transparency. The term once broadly synonymous with chrysalis evolution has become in recent times tied to a very specific and controversial topic in the broad sphere of identity politics (gender).
Vitarka Mudra
A seal or gesture — in yoga, a posture of the hands or body that expresses an inner state. Here: the posture of group discussion itself — openness that holds equivalence rather than coercion or sameness. The discussion or vitarka mudra expresses wholeness and equivalence in a gesture wherein the thumb and forefinger are joined while three remaining digits point outwards. Representing oneself, the other, and the discussion between or alternatively the mathematical symbol for equivalence (≡). The implication is to see one as an equivalent in an interaction which therefore demands due consideration. Its presentation may be seen a placebo affirmation. Coincidentally is also the 'OK' brought back into popular usage by Martin Van Buren.
Yield
In finance and farming: return produced by an asset or season after costs. Here: durable utility after time, energy, and governance — worthwhile capability or contentment, not merely monetary return; civilization's yield curve as a moral instrument before a market one.
Yogasana
The physical postures of yoga—practiced in traditions such as Sivananda, Hatha, Iyengar, and Ashtanga—were designed to create openness and fluidity by promoting blood flow and tissue suppleness. This fluidity serves as the basis for currency in its foundational sense: circulation and exchange within a living system.
Historically, these practices were innovated as minimalist, accessible protocols to restore mobility in the East as a response to the sedentary shifts of developing civilization. By the early twentieth century, physical movement systems gained broad popularity alongside emerging social welfare structures. Engaging in physical conditioning, such as Georges Hébert’s Méthode Naturelle, was viewed as an individual's civic responsibility—a personal obligation to support community well-being and maintain the integrity of the commons. Today, these systems and their modern descendants (such as parkour) remain rooted in fundamental, evolutionary human movement patterns rather than isolated machine exercises or artificial gym metrics.
Yoga Element
The Yoga Element may be seen as creation in both senses. It's liveness (anima) bounded by legitimately boundedness (embodiment). Its the output of light (from the sun) which on earth preceded all things by some margin. All life whether sentient or not utilizes matter, combining it with energy to generate persistence and outcomes. Yoga Element is the impulse to move towards objective beauty (seen as integrity and fairness) or firmitas. This is why universally all of us find nature to be awesome.
